Jacobs has won numerous literary awards including first prize (nonfiction book category) for her book proposal for Secret Girl and third prize (essay category) in the Southwest Writers 2002 Literary Contest; first prize in fiction from The Baltimore Artscape Festival—1998; and third place for The Crescent Review's 1997 Chekhov Award for Fiction .
